Dominique Addison, M.A

Bio

Fluent in English, Spanish, and Indonesian, she is also learning Brazilian Portuguese and Haitian Creole. Dominique is deeply passionate about language learning and aims to become fluent in eight languages by the age of 40.

At FIU, Dominique has been actively involved in initiatives that blend her interest in international relations with community service. She served as the Events Coordinator for the Sigma Iota Rho International Relations Honor Society, the Internal Engagement Coordinator for the Office of Global Learning, and taught English to Syrian refugees through the virtual education program Paper Airplanes.

Raised in a multicultural household with Haitian, Filipino, and Antiguan roots in Florida, Dominique developed an early appreciation for diverse perspectives and cultures, sparking her passion for global engagement. As a 2023-2024 Boren Awards recipient of the Indonesian Language Flagship Initiative (IFLI), Dominique lived and studied in Indonesia, bolstering her love for language learning and cross-cultural connections.

 

After graduating in December 2024, she plans to pursue a master’s degree in international development, aiming to drive change through diplomacy. She aspires to build a career in federal service, where she can leverage her regional expertise, cultural adaptability, language skills, and passion for fostering cross-cultural connections.
